Intro to Handbuilding

Embrace the imperfections and irregularities of handbuilding. Learn techniques such as slab building, pinch pots and coiling to create unique forms. Explore surface techniques such as texturing & engobe decorating. 

*No previous experience necessary.

Course Length: 1 Handbuilding session @ 3 hours, + 1 flexible glaze session.

Intermediate Wheel: Plates & Bottles

Improve your skills on the potter’s wheel by learning to throw Plates & Bottle Forms. Learn how to make a chuck to trim bottles and how to trim plates in a way that avoids cracks and warping.

*Independent wheel experience of approx. 1-2 months is recommended prior to the course. Basic techniques such as centering, pulling, and glazing will not be covered.

Course length: 3 sessions @ 2 hours per session + 1 flexible glaze session.

Intro to Slip Casting

Produce replicas of a real-life object by learning how to build a one-part or two-part mold. Bring a unique object of your own to cast or use one from the studio. Learn techniques such as designing molds, mixing clay slip, pouring, de-molding, retouching and glazing your pieces.

*No previous experience necessary.

Course Length: 1 session @ 2 hours, 2 sessions @ 3 hours + 1 flexible glaze session.

Beginning Wheel: Cylinders and Bowls

Learn the basics of throwing clay on the potter’s wheel. Enjoy the rewards & challenges of throwing cylinders & bowls, trimming feet, and glazing. 

*No previous experience necessary.

Course length: 4 sessions @ 2 hours per session.

Your finished work can be picked up one week after final session.

Intermediate Wheel: Lids, Handles, Spouts, & Teapots

Learn to use the potter’s wheel to throw and assemble parts that fit together, such as Lidded Forms or Teapots. Learn to pull handles & make different kinds of spouts.

Project-Based Handbuilding

Explore complex forms & develop your ideas by putting together clay parts. Bring a sketch of your own or simply explore how to construct sculptural & functional forms with this project-based class. Various intermediate techniques will be introduced such as building with tar-paper, curvy coil-building, large slab-construction, wheel-thrown attachments, & drag-molds.

*Previous experience with clay and a basic understanding of hand-building is required.

Course length: 4 sessions @ 3 hours per session + 1 flexible glaze session.

Exploring Surfaces & Mark-Making

Explore the possibilities of surface design and textures for clay in this 3-part workshop. Learn a broad array of techniques focusing on surfaces such as carving, stamping, rubbing, masking, underglazing and brushwork. 

*No previous experience necessary.

Flexible Glazing Class

Join one of our regular glaze classes to learn how to apply glaze to pieces that have already been bisque-fired. Bring your own pieces, or use “leftover” pieces from the studio. We explore techniques such as pouring, dipping, brushing, removing, and applying layers.

*No previous experience necessary.

Duration: 2 hours

Your finished work can be picked up one week after final session.

Cost: 35€ inkl. MwSt. (+3,5% processing fee)
